Brazilian Jiujitsu Classes

A typical NYBJJ class is broken into 3 parts.  In the first, students go through a series of drills designed to prepare their bodies for the class.  These drills include Hip Escpaes, Shoulder Rolls, Push Ups, Triangle Drills and more.  These drills also serve to build the students' muscle memory through repetition of techniques that are used in sparring.

Next, the students are shown a technique.  The technique is explained and demonstrated in detail by the instructor.  Then, students are paired with a partner and begin practicing the new technique.  During this time the instructor chekcs the students to ensure that the technique is being performed correctly.

Finally, students spar.  Sometimes the students engage in Structured Sparring where the instructor imposes certain restrictions.  The instructor might say that one person is ony allowed to fight from the Closed Guard, or he might say that students must utilize the technique taught in class today.  Othertimes, the students engage in Free Sparring where they are allowed to utilize whichever techniques they choose.
